The POPP Flagship and Ephemeralist tables are designed as canvases for artwork.

The POPP concept of Public Playable Art not only brings art, life, colour and authenticity into a community space, but it also creates - through the game of ping pong and the visual storytelling of an artist - a way to capture and develop the grassroots identity and brand of a place. Add to that the opportunity to engender artists and their networks with a sense of pride and ownership over a public space, and the POPP art concept starts to bloom.

Of course, the artwork concept is also an opportunity for customers to apply a logo, park name, motto, sponsor or donor message, or school emblem on the table. In this sense artwork is defined broadly.

3. HOW ARE TABLES DELIVERED?

Every POPP table is fabricated and painted locally in our US workshop (for US orders) and our Australian workshop (for Australian / New Zealand / Singapore orders) to meet our exacting and tested standards. Delivery is then organised and managed by POPP from our workshop to your site. Deliveries of POPP tables are designed to be easy, fast and completed in one stage.

4. WHAT IS THE COST OF DELIVERY / SHIPPING? AND WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?

The cost of delivery is quoted on a case by case basis and depends on the table model, the quantity of tables and the location of and access to the final site. All US orders are freighted from our US workshop. All Australian, New Zealand and Singapore orders are shipped from our Australian workshop.

Please contact us at info@popp.world for a shipping quote to your location.

5. HOW DO WE MANAGE PADDLES / BATS AND BALLS?

There are a few different options, all of which are covered in our POPP Handbook, provided with every table purchase.

Initially encourage local people to bring their own paddles / bats and balls through education about the table and awareness campaigns. As awareness grows, bringing their own equipment becomes a habit.

Purchase (at a low cost from POPP) weatherproof bats and balls and store them in the free-to-access paddle / bat and ball holders on every table, noting that our evidence shows bats are rarely stolen, lost or irreparably damaged.

Partner with a local cafe, library or community centre to loan or provide paddles / bats and balls for free or with the supply of a identity card or deposit. There is of course scope to have a little note “bats and balls at the cafe” illustrated on the table top.

Where the table is located will determine the preferred option and POPP is happy to provide advice tailored to your location and community. Please contact info@popp.world to find out more.

6. CAN YOU MOVE THE TABLES?

Every POPP table can be repositioned as and when required. This is one of the best features of POPP tables - unlike concrete tables which can only be demolished - POPP tables can be moved and relocated if landscaping, development or other applications so require it. Please contact info@popp.world if you have repositioning questions.

7. WHAT IS AN IDEAL PLACE FOR A POPP TABLE?

POPP tables are installed in recreational parklands, foreshores, boardwalks, malls, town, urban and regional centres, schools, universities, student housing facilities, residential developments, detention centres, health and aged-care facilities, retail and commercial precincts and adjacent to skateparks. In many ways, each of these spaces is the ideal place for their community.

Firstly, an important question to ask is ‘what the objectives for that space are?’ Once these objectives, whether they are increased activity, vibrancy, community engagement etc, are understood, it is then important to look at the physical elements of the space and to assess their dynamics (POPP can assist). Is there seating, lighting, a good playing surface, nearby amenities? We work with a diverse array of communities and spaces and because of this, every placement is different. Fortunately, the experienced POPP team of placemakers, designers and delivery managers are happy to assist and provide you with site-specific advice on your placement - and ongoing advice on its activation.

We encourage you to contact us at info@popp.world with details (and images) of your location and its surrounding environment, the current uses and users of the space and the desired uses and users of the space so that your community can benefit from our placemaking knowledge and experience.

8. HOW ARE POPP TABLES INSTALLED?

POPP tables are predominantly installed on pre-existing surfaces including paving, concrete, asphalt, crushed granite and crushed limestone. Installation and assembly for these sites is a simple, fast and one-stage process.

Flagship tables are delivered to site as a fully-welded, one-piece unit via a HIAB / boom truck (truck with hydraulic crane arm attachment) or on a tail-lift / lift-gate truck with a pallet trolley. Where truck access to the final site location is not possible, POPP will prepare an alternative delivery plan that may include a pallet trolley, forklift or - in very rare circumstances - a crane, to position the table.

Ephemeralist tables are delivered to site on a pallet via a tail-lift / lift-gate truck only. POPP does not undertake the assembly or anchoring of tables however POPP Ephemeralist Assembly Instructions are provided and POPP is available to assist with assembly enquiries.

Local tables are delivered to site on a pallet via a tail-lift / lift-gate truck only. POPP does not undertake the assembly or anchoring of tables however POPP Local Assembly Instructions are provided and POPP is available to assist with assembly enquiries.

Where a new playing area is being prepared, POPP provides advice and in certain cases, recommended concrete strip footing and slab specifications, as required. POPP is available to assist with the site requirements enquiries.

9. WHAT IS AN IDEAL PLACE FOR A POPP TABLE?

POPP and outdoor ping pong have found their home in urban landscapes. Our table tennis tables, and the life that comes with them, are transforming spaces into active and engaging community hubs. We work with a diverse array of communities and spaces and because of this, every placement is different. However, there are certain features that add to, enable or complement the placement of a POPP table. These features include seating, lighting, a good playing surface to nearby amenity and people, and of course a tailored POPP activation strategy to coherently tie it all together.

POPP tables are located in recreational parklands, foreshores, boardwalks, malls, town, urban and regional centres, schools, universities, detention centres, health facilities, retail and commercial precincts and adjacent to skateparks. For each space, they add a dimension of activity, vibrancy and engagement to a space.

10. HOW CAN MY POPP TABLE BE ACTIVATED?

Our team of POPP placemakers and designers have a wealth of experience in placemaking and place activation. One point that leads any discussion on activation strategies is a need to understand the space, its surrounding environment, its current uses and users and its desired uses and users - we refer to these elements as the Place Objectives. We will be happy to work with you to develop a tailored placemaking strategy or activation ideas for your space that is both right for your community and easy to execute. Please contact info@popp.world to find out more.

11. WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF A POPP TABLE?

All POPP tables conform to the International Table Tennis Federation specifications: 2740 x 1525 x 760mm h or foot: 9’ x 5’ x 2.5' h.

Please contact us at info@popp.world for questions regarding recommended playing area dimensions.

12. CAN WE DO OUR OWN ARTWORK?

At POPP, we love public art, and on a ping pong table, we can call it Public Playable Art! The Flagship and Ephemeralist tables are designed specifically for artwork. The options for artwork can be:

• A client commissioned artwork (artwork that is developed and applied by a local artist commissioned by the client in accordance with the POPP Artwork Guidelines)
• A POPP designed artwork (artwork that is developed and applied by POPP in accordance with the POPP Artwork Guidelines and the client brief)
• A client designed / POPP applied artwork (artwork that is developed by the client and applied by POPP in accordance with the POPP Artwork Guidelines)

For artwork designed and applied by you or an artist commissioned by you, POPP will provide Artwork Guidelines and artwork templates to assist in the concept development and application of the artwork. POPP is also available to assist with artwork and application enquiries.

For artwork designed and applied by POPP or an artist commissioned by POPP - costs are quoted on a case by case basis and will depend on the brief, the intricacy of the design / artwork and the most appropriate method of application.

To find out more about the artwork process and pricing, please contact info@popp.world
